Hidden Garden [Colored]

Its been a while since I posted this one. It was among the first images I ever attempted to color so its no wonder I wasn't completely satisfied with it. Now, the only way to fix EVERYTHING about this image would be to redraw and then recolor it....which I'm not going to do. But I did try and add a little dimension to it. Shade a few places here and there. hopefully that helps it to pop just a little bit better.  Then again, I guess there's a chance it didn't help at all. Ha! Old art - hilarious.

Her people were violently territorial in their prime. Now they are scattered to the four corners and mostly solitary creatures. Hiding in places where men can not easily travel and tending their stone gardens like one might fuss over a trophy collection.

But Asdis stands apart from them and never considered herself a Gorgon, not really. Abandoned before she even hatched she lived on the edge of human society all her life. Their faces were the only ones she ever knew and it was their trust she always wanted. She considered herself one of them despite her appearance and wished for nothing else but to live among them as a normal person. To have a house with trinkets and nick-nacks decorating the walls, an overstuffed chair and maybe a tree house in the backyard.

She traveled for a long time between cities finding work with the various adventuring guilds. She traveled with many men and women slaying dragons and vanquishing threats. But in the end her heritage couldn't be overcome. Despite her efforts men feared her and what she might become.

In the end she found herself in her own hidden garden. Beneath the still waters of her home are the stone carcasses of several hundred men and women who came to hunt her even after she retreated into solitude. Unlike her brethren she takes no pride in having a collection of victims.

Caressing their cold fingers that reach out from the depths, she yearns for peace that will never come.

Anyways. This piece took FOREVER and then a day to finish. It has been in my 'to-do' folder since I began haunting DA again. That's at least a year. I had a lot of ambitions for this image but had to finally face the facts....I'm not that great of a painter. So. This is the result. For better or worse. Its done!
